The U.S. Supreme Court will not hear arguments from objectors to the settlement the National Football League (NFL) reached with former players over the concussion issue. Players who have been waiting on receiving compensation will finally be able to collect their award. In addition, plaintiffs’ attorneys who represented them will finally receive their fees. While this is good news for all parties involved, a possible delay in payment might continue to ensue. The settlement the NFL reached with its former players has been through the legal gauntlet. The initial $785 million settlement was sent back for being too low by U.S. District Court Judge, Anita Brody. On April 2015, Judge Brody gave final approval of the settlement, but then appeals from objectors halted compensation for the former players and their representatives. Now that the Supreme Court decided not to hear the case and effectively upheld the settlement, payment to the plaintiffs and their attorneys can begin.
